I feel like I’m giving up my secret fishing spot by posting this, so I’m not going to give you the details on how to find this until the very end… and I (secretly) hope you don’t show up next week so it gives me time to get signed up for a spot. Wow! Mark Grabavoy, Dellwood Disc Golf, Leo and Paula Borowski, Thor and all the helping hands that have made this event happen have done it again. If you thought Inparcerated was good you’re going to love this weekly putting league at the Old Joliet Prison where players get to play two rounds of eighteen holes. You get three shots at each hole and the more points you get the better, each disc that lands in the basket is one point. Simple game, lots of fun and points accumulate over the weeks until the very end when the player’s party will take place.

The Joliet Prison Putting League takes place at the Old Joliet Prison and that’s the women’s prison on the east side of 171, the entrance is off of Woodruff — and down an alley way (when I got there it looked like no-one was there because the cars are hidden by buildings and gates). It takes place each week on Saturdays - sign-up is at 4:45pm. and a 6:00pm start time. $16 all-in and optional tags are a one-time fee of $10. Tags help support the club and give an added element to play against your friends to try to get the lowest tag number. They were not selling putters on site but you can pick some up at the Dellwood Disc Golf Pro Shop during store hours just a few blocks away - and play Canyons! That course is amazing!
I was lucky enough to shoot two speed rounds during break, it was cold in there and I needed to warm up! The 1st round I didn’t keep score but the 2nd we posted live on my Instagram account (@lelphotography), I played Steve Rachan and we used two putters, I shot 14 and he shot 13, sorry Steve but great round. Thank you Marc Borowski for taping! A little bit more about me…
Hi! I’m Lauren. I have been a disc golf photographer for over ten years now. Disc Golf has been an obsession to say the least. To cover this event I used my Canon 7D, a 24mm pancake lens, a pair of hotheads (thank you Dellwood) and a bottle of water. I like using fixed lenses because I like the way it compresses everything together versus optical zoom, and shallow depth of field - duh :) !! I do post-process work using Adobe Lightroom.
When I’m not photographing disc golf I love hanging out with by love Chris and my dog Eco, I also photograph nature, people, weddings and commercial projects. I just finished my BA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago and have dates available in 2019 for events. You can find out more about me and the events I have covered on my about page.
Someone please get on Tom M. and Thor and let’s bring back the Joliet Pro Championships!
Oh you are still here. Here are some other things…as I said disc golf is an obsession. Three years of baskets:
My first published photo in DiscGolfer Magaizine: Avery Jenkins’ winning putt at the 2009 World Championships in Kansas City. He had a sudden death playoff against Josh Anthon. After I got published I thought that moment would never be topped again.
My 1st tournament ace at the 2015 Northwoods Open, Sandy Point Resort with my Star Stamped Champion Coyote.
Throwing Darrin in the lake…
Me and The Champ. 2010 Pro World Championships.
Paul McBeth’s 1st World Championship win - 2012 Charlotte, NC.
Barsby at 2012 Vibram…
When I posted this photo of Drew Gibson it went viral. They made so many memes with it - complete with ballerinas and who knows what. As a photographer, what do you do when that happens? Go after people for stealing your work? I let it go. Although I have stepped up for myself in other situations. Now I wish I would have saved a copy of them just to laugh at - if you see any please send them my way.
